Lawn garden edging: 5 reasons why steel edging delivers the best finish

27 November 2023

In the world of garden design, lawn edging has emerged as an essential element for providing an extra finishing touch to your outdoor space and making the partitioned areas look sleek and polished. Deciding how you separate the different and distinct areas is as important as what you choose to put in them.

Treating timber annually or using a spade to regularly define and maintain garden and lawn edges is a drain on time and energy, and this is where metal edging comes into its own. It keeps grass and organic matter where it is supposed to be with zero maintenance, and it looks sublime.

How does landscape edging successfully add the finishing touch to a garden design? Here are 5 reasons:

1.  Refined and streamlined garden edges

The classic lawn is neat, tidy and precise. Steel garden edging delivers a sleek appearance to complement both traditional and contemporary garden designs by enhancing the overall neatness and orderliness of the outdoor space. Refined and streamlined, a clean aesthetic is achieved making the lawn a statement.

2.  Barely-there garden edging

Available in various heights, you have flexibility as to how much garden edging is visible. Installing a low-level edge means the metal edging provides the practical benefits, but in a more simple and understated way which works beautifully in contemporary garden styling.

3.  Stunning unique Corten steel edging

The natural weathering process of Corten steel edging develops a patina, a distinctive rusty hue coating which makes it weather resistant but also gives it a unique beauty. The tones exude warmth and character blending seamlessly into a variety of outdoor settings, from lush traditional garden landscapes to modern patios. The naturally created appearance creates harmonious garden edging.

4.  Design flexibility for the ultimate garden design cohesion

Rarely do garden designs consist purely of uniform straight edges. Typically, there are undulations, curved corners of flowerbeds and paths, and trees that require rings. Steel garden edging can be manipulated from straight lines into any shape easily, without negatively impacting its strength. This allows for the garden zones to be aesthetically united although they may have differing styles, purposes and elements, they come together to produce a charming garden.

5.  Indestructible and high-quality landscape edging

There are many options to choose from for garden edging to bring your garden design to life. There’s stone, brick, timber and metal landscape edging, or more playful materials such as shells, there is no need to restrict yourself creatively-but you do need to consider installation, maintenance and durability alongside the aesthetic value it gives your garden. Incredibly durable, it is indestructible and able to withstand damage from garden tools and extreme weather and requires no maintenance – it will look as good as the day you installed it for your lifetime.

Ready-made and easy to install, EverEdge steel edging is the ideal for defining garden borders and lawns, lining boundaries and driveways. It’s an affordable way to revamp and restyle your garden without having to either roll up your sleeves for an extensive overhaul or dig deep into your pockets to pay for it. A red lawn mower is cutting grass on a gravel road
30 July 2025
Winter might give you a break from summer’s relentless mowing schedule, but it’s no time to forget about your lawn. While grass growth noticeably slows in the cooler temperatures, your lawn still needs some attention through the colder months. With just a little care now, you’ll be rewarded with a healthier, more resilient lawn that requires less maintenance and attention come spring – and at the heart of a healthy lawn is EverEdge garden edging . Mow smart Whereas growth warm-season varieties of grasses like kikuyu, couch, and buffalo slow, cool-season grasses such as perennial rye, fescue, and Kentucky blue grass remain active through winter and benefit from regular mowing. Every 3–4 weeks should do the trick, depending on growth. Keep the mower height up a little higher than you usually would set it to allows for a thicker leaf area to absorb more light and helps the lawn stay robust. Mow on a dry day and use a catcher to reduce fungal issues. Sharpen mower blades and clean them between cuts to prevent disease spread - healthy grass starts with clean tools. Light and airflow matter Low winter sun and a change to trees can put your lawn under stress. Your lawn needs light to be able to photosynthesise so where necessary, prune overhanging branches to allow more light through to vulnerable areas of lawn. Regularly raking leaves prevents the blanket of tree debris smothering the lawn and helps reduce the risk of disease. Moss and fungal issues thrive in damp, low-light conditions, so improving air and light circulation is key. Feed roots, not leaves Feeding your lawn in winter isn’t essential, but it can be beneficial - particularly in warmer regions or for cool-season grasses. But it’s important to choose a formula that supports root development and soil biology – this helps to improve resistance to stress and fungal issues.
